GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION: 

The purpose of this position is to lead and manage the Law School Engagement & Advocacy Unit.  

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead, manage and motivate a team of four.
  • Create and manage compelling programs for students that instill an interest in public interest law and build the pipeline of public interest lawyers.
  • Advocate for law schools to adopt programs and practices that support students’ pursuit of public service.
  • Educate law students about how to manage educational debt barriers to public service.
  • Advocate for programs to alleviate educational debt burdens.
  • Develop and strengthens relationships with law schools and law students, including making public presentations to key audiences.
  • Collaborate with directors of fellowships and public programs units to identify and prioritize strategies and tactics to increase participation in Equal Justice Works’ programs.
  • Lead efforts for successful law school membership participation, student representative program, Conference and Career Fair, and educational debt relief.
  • Set annual performance goals, create and implements measurement tools, and conduct periodic and reportable assessments of measurable progress.
  • Develop, monitor and manage departmental budget.
  • Collaborate with Executive Vice President on strategic planning and talent management.
  • Serve as member of organizational leadership team.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • JD degree and six or more years’ successful management experience (nonprofit experience a plus)
  • Strong understanding of public interest law and law school education.
  • Experience working with or in law schools on pro bono, public interest, or clinical education programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, manage and motivate a team.
  • Skilled, persuasive public speaker and advocate—public policy advocacy experience desirable.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, and interpersonal and collaborative skills.
  • Proven ability to bring stakeholders together and work strategically to achieve program goals.
  • Ability to think creatively, strategically and analytically.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively and achieve results.
  • This position travels 30% - 40%.
