Position Overview

The Law School Engagement & Advocacy Manager plays an integral role in the work of the Law School Engagement & Advocacy unit’s efforts to engage with law school professionals, law students, and the public interest community on issues related to careers in public interest law, educational debt, and Public Service Loan Forgiveness. The role will support the unit's work in facilitating short-term student fellowship opportunities; the largest public service legal career fair in the country; and educational, leadership, and networking opportunities for students. The position is part of a collaborative team and reports directly to the Director of the Law School Engagement & Advocacy unit. 

Equal Justice Works has established a Coalition to Preserve Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) with over 90 member allies. This role will play a critical part in managing the Coalition’s advocacy effort to preserve PSLF. We are looking for a dynamic and creative team member who knows how to communicate and effectively organize members of the legal community (law students, law school professionals, and public interest attorneys). Qualified applicants will demonstrate a deep understanding of the priorities of the public interest law community as well as the obstacles that face this community and have a passion for assisting it.


Specific Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with the organization’s key constituents and allies, including law schools, law school professionals, legal organizations, and higher education advocacy groups.
  • Work closely with the Director of Law School Engagement & Advocacy to manage the organization’s active involvement in the Coalition to Preserve Public Service Loan Forgiveness. 
  • Serve as reliable internal source on media coverage and policy updates from Capitol Hill and nationwide related activity surrounding Public Service Loan Forgiveness.
  • Increase, maintain, and engage the Equal Justice Works’ Student Representative Program that encompasses law students from across the country who strive to be public service leaders on their campuses. 
  • Create and give compelling presentations for various Equal Justice Works and Coalition constituents including law schools, at conferences and via regular online webinars
  • Capture and analyze data on Equal Justice Works opportunities. Draft short- and long-form content as it relates to PSLF, building on our established public presence.
  • Assist in managing budgets and preparing grant reports.
  • Perform other duties as needed.


  • Bachelor's degree preferred.  J.D. or relevant advanced degree a plus. 
  • Four or more years of relevant working experience
  • Strong public speaking, communication, and writing skills. 
  • Experience with advocacy campaigns or Hill experience and/or previous experience on student debt relief programs. 
  • Demonstrated proficiency with social media platforms and strategies. Previous experience with grassroots advocacy software a plus. 
  • Demonstrated project management, problem solving, and analytical skills. 
  • Strong computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (e.g. Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word). 
  • Ability to work with current technology and to adapt to new technology. 
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills. 
  • Ability to multi-task and proven ability to take individual initiative and responsibility for assignments.       
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically up to 35%.


  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Dynamics),
  • Ability to use technology to manage and consolidate data, grants management, and report writing.
  • Superior writing and ability to update digital content
